COVID-19: A dire warning to Americans to ‘please stay home’

COVID-19 deaths in the United States have reached a new record high with more than 4,000 recorded deaths from the virus on Thursday.
Testing centres are swamped, with more cases of the more infectious variant, first identified in the United Kingdom, spreading in more locations around the country. There are also concerns about a variant found in South Africa, which seems resistant to some COVID-19 treatments.
The top infectious disease expert is warning that the number of deaths and infections is likely to keep rising – especially after people travelled over the holiday season.
